The local currency in South African is the Rand (ZAR) Botswana, Pula (PUL) at similar value as the Rand. Pula can only be obtained within Botswana via an ATM or bank however, the Rand & USD are and both accepted in either country. Zimbabwe uses the USD. Credit cards are widely accepted though it is useful to carry some cash for tips and small purchases at local markets. Tipping is customary, with 10-15% expected at restaurants. Southern African Safaris recommends tipping safari guides the equivalent to $25 USD per couple per day and best paid with a good-by handshake in envelope on departure. Lodge staff generally have a post-box in the reception area, which is divided amongst the team otherwise, give directly with discretion.
